At Project NEURON, we're excited to be presenting workshops and papers at two separate conferences this spring in Chicago: The National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) in March and the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST) in April.
Below is a list of our upcoming workshops (NSTA) and interactive poster paper (NARST). We will also post presentation materials online after the conferences!
National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) -- March 12–15, 2015
Using games to support students in the practice of "Developing and Using Models." Explore role-playing games that engage students in using models by asking questions, making predictions, and collecting and analyzing data. Learn more!
Food for thought: Modeling the role of glucose. Come experience a hands-on unit that incorporates NGSS to explore metabolism, homeostasis, and health! Access to free NIH SEPA funded curriculum materials. Learn more!
Math + Biology. It adds up! Explore student-driven activities that integrate key science and math practices identified in NGSS and CCSS. Activities involve data collection & analysis, graphing, and scale concepts. Learn more!
National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST) -- April 11–14, 2015
Using a computer game to introduce scientific explanations to students. Our findings suggest scaffolds external to the computer game play an important role in helping students write high quality scientific explanations (Interactive Poster Paper). Learn more!
The redundancy principle of multimedia learning in a next generation science classroom: Measuring learning outcomes. The findings of this study suggests that the redundancy principle, an established principle in cognitive psychology, can account for some but not all differences in learning outcomes from a video used within the context of a problem-based science unit (Paper Presentation).
